The company was formed in 2004 as a Joint Venture between OHB Technology AG and ELOP Ltd. Its headquarters are in Bremen, Germany on the business premises of OHB.

The major business goal of OHB ELectroOPtics is to develop electro-optical satellite payloads for the European market based on the in-depth technology know how of its two mother companies.

ELOP is one of the global market leaders in electro-optical payloads and has developed several satellite cameras for international markets (e.g. South Korea). OHB is one of the global leaders in small satellite systems and has specific know how in payload data handling, data encryption and data transmission.The major experience of the OHB-ELectroOPtics GmbH co-owners OHB Technology AG and ELOP Ltd.:

• OHB-Technology AG is the holding of OHB-System AG, contributing with the system level experience in space programmes including numerous ESA programmes as well as prime contractor for SAR-Lupe program.
• The large know-how of ELOP Ltd. in spaceborne imaging systems ensures flight heritage of the OIS camera system basing on the current KOMPSAT-2 program.
